Summary of Position
Manages convenience store engaged in selling merchandise by performing the following duties, and achieving the following goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains a customer service oriented operation with a minimum average score of 90% or more on Customer Service Shops. (5%)
- Responsible for maintaining an acceptable gross profit, proper inventory management, including compliance with any contractual agreements (i.e. cigarette displays, soda barrels), and operations reporting of convenience store activities. (17%)
- Responsible for achieving a 5% or greater sales increase over the previous year in both inside sales and fuel sales. Failure to meet this goal will require a written improvement action plan approved by the manager’s immediate supervisor and the implementation of that plan. (3%)
- Plans and prepares work schedules and assigns employees to specific duties. Payroll must be within the budgeted hours set by the Territory Manager for that store. (3%)
- Contains the losses of their unit by keeping inventory shrink at no greater than 1% of inside sales (excluding Lottery or Lotto sales), and cash loss at less than .4% of total sales dollar. Results will be reviewed on a quarterly basis. (5%)
- Ensure all reports, such as purchase, inventory and sales, are accurate and timely. This will include having all reports T-Com’d to the office on the due date, without exception, without errors or adjustments. (6%)
- Monitor and maintain proper store cleanliness, appearance and maintenance as per company guidelines with minimum scores of 95% or higher on Loss Prevention/Asset Protection and Food Service Inspections. Scores will be reviewed bi-annually. (5%)
- Assist with human resource issues such as hiring, discipline and termination. Turnover of employees must be less than 150% of hourly personnel annually. (10%)
- Supervises employees engaged in sales work, taking of inventories, reconciling cash with sales receipts, keeping operating records and preparing daily record of transactions or performs work of subordinates, as needed. (10%)
- Ensures compliance of employees with established security, sales, and record keeping procedures and practices. (4%)
- Orders merchandise or prepares requisitions to replenish merchandise on hand. (5%)
- Monitor and verify vendor activity in store. (3%)
- Ensure adequate levels of employees are available for proper operation of the store and that all store employees are trained properly. (5%)
- Coordinates sales promotion activities and prepares, or directs workers preparing, merchandise displays and advertising copy. (3%)
- Perform banking functions such as cash counting and deposit. (6%)
- Inventory control – record all purchases at retail and compare to the physical counts on premise. (5%)
- Perform all shift duties as required, i.e., run the cash register. (10%)
Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with overall operations improvement such as increasing customer base.
- Perform all other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly supervises 3 to 15 employees in the convenience store. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications Requirements

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or proof of general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Possess the ability to effectively speak before groups of customers, employees or organizations.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.
Reasoning Abilities
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
